The ‘Towards Mauri Ora’ research project investigated potential links between Maori-centric entrepreneurship education programmes (known as Ahikaa programmes) and suicide prevention for ‘hard to reach’ rangatahi Māori and whānau who participated in the programmes. The potential links were located in a range of suicide risk factors and protective factors3 which, it was proposed, were reduced or ameliorated (in the case of risk factors) and/or increased or strengthened (in the case of protective factors) for rangatahi and whānau who completed Ahikaa entrepreneurship education programmes.
