Rongo Taua are Marae based in Taranaki, where a number of matua volunteer their time to mentor and support up to 50 young Māori Male Rangatahi. They have a mission “to empower our people and culture, to inspire our rangatahi to reach their potential and in doing so we hope to restore the balance for our people in this ever-changing world”.
Key aspects of this mentoring programme focuses on wellness, resilience and access to support for rangatahi if and when they need it. There are resources provided during mentoring sessions, that also include handy information and helpline information.
Members of Te Au had the opportunity to attend Rongo Taua graduations where the Rangatahi graduates perform mau rākau, haka and waiata that they learnt. It is clear, their whānau are grateful to Rongo Taua for their awhi, aroha and manaaki given to the young men, and acknowledge the difference made, noted by their increased confidence, respect in self and in others.
