I was raised in a world where neither parent acknowledged their Māoritanga. Living my childhood feeling disconnected from my own identity, often isolated and neglected. I have been on a journey of self-discovery, of forgiveness, of acceptance. To find healing for self and truly getting to know who Cody is, without the past trauma, influence my present and where I am heading.

Today, I am a solo mother raising my baby with strength in recognising the value of her uniqueness, her identity. I aim for my baby to live with confidence in herself, to ensure that outside influences will not shake her values. I am enlightening her about our roots, our tipuna and the small knowledge I hold of our whakapapa while we continue to learn and grow together.

We have recently relocated to Te Tai Tokerau with the aspiration to learn more of our connection to the Hokianga. I wish to create a roopū who can connect to our whānau within the wider communities, to truly capture the voice of our people within this region. With high hopes of implementing positive change within overall systems for Māori.
