Aku Tangi Kōrero: Kahu Whakatere Tūpāpaku is a series of six webinar.

Terri Cassidy for Te Oro Tapu hosts the inspiring kaikōrero Maata Wharehoka and Ngamaru Raerino.

In the first webinar Maata will share her story of Kahu Whakatere Tūpāpaku, the tikanga Māori practices around death and burial. Throughout the webinar series of six, our kaikōrero will explore topics such as grief & loss, dying with dignity, death & burial, the after-death process, Papatūānuku, Ranginui me ngā atua and much more. On the sixth webinar Maata & Ngamaru will answer questions from participants.

In this webinar Maata and Ngamaru will discuss Papatūānuku, Ranginui, ngā atua and their relationship to tupāpakūtanga. The delivery will be in a mix of te reo Māori and English. Maata Wharehoka

Maata began her working life as a nurse. In 2015 she won the Creative New Zealand Ngā Tohu ā Tā Kingi Ihaka award recognising her contribution to marae arts, raranga and karanga. Living at Parihaka Pā she has championed Kahu Whakatere Tūpāpaku, tikanga Māori death and burial practices.

Ngamaru Raerino
Ngāti Awa, Ngāti Rangiwewehi, Ngāti Rangitihi,
Ngāti Tuwharetoa

Ngamaru is an esteemed kaumatua within his whānau, community and nationally. He has a diverse background in multimedia, Māori health, education, economics, and social services. He is committed to Maori development and te reo me ona tikanga. His work is grounded in the promotion of te ao Māori.

The questions must be emailed to terri.cassidy@terauora.com by 3pm, Tuesday 9th November 2021 for them to be considered in the last webinar. The webinar series will be delivered in a mix of te reo Māori & English.
