Referral Process
All referrals including self-referrals can be made through Te Waharoa, a Hauora Tairāwhiti and Te Kupenga Net Trust Joint venture. Alternatively, access to Mental Health and Addictions Services for tamariki, rangitahi, their Whānau; children and families can be made in the following ways:

Self-referral or by a Whānau member through Te Waharoa
Through your GP
By schools or tertiary education providers
Through agencies or services within our community
By hospital services
Description
We are an infant, child and young person-focused service that assists to create a positive change in various emotional, psychological and psychiatric health imbalances that impact wellbeing.

At Te Whare o Te Rito we use a variety of approaches depending on the infant’s, child’s, or young person’s emotional, psychological and psychiatric health needs such as:

Various types of counselling
Various types of therapies
Medication treatment
Indigenous approaches
This service covers the Tairāwhiti district up to the Anaura Bay turnoff just north of Tolaga Bay.

Ngāti Porou Hauora covers the area from the Anaura Bay turnoff up to the northern Tairāwhiti boundary.

The ICAMHS team members provide urgent assessments for children and adolescents during normal working hours. The Psychiatric Assessment Triage Team (PATT) provides this service outside of hours.
